How Much Is Lasik Eye Surgery?
How much is Lasik and is it worth my money? For those of you who have bad sight, surely Lasik surgery has crossed your mind. Having eye problems is never easy. Those who are near-sighted or far-sighted definitely have a hard time seeing without their glasses. Being near-sighted is hard as it will prevent you from seeing far things clearly. Without your glasses, you won’t be able to watch television, go outside, read signs, or recognize faces.
Those who are far sighted will have a hard time seeing their work or other things at close range without their glasses. Going on a date? How hard is it to look at your loved one with and without your glasses? How about looking at your cellphone early in the morning? What’s hard about this is that most of these cases are hereditary and sometimes it becomes so frustrating that we can’t do anything but wear glasses or contacts. Good thing that we are now being introduced with Lasik eye surgery. The question is, how much is Lasik and would it be worth our money and is it safe?
Lasik is a new innovative eye surgery in which the procedure involves a laser that is used to reshape the surface of the cornea – mostly for correcting refractive eye disorders. The procedure starts with the initial check up where the patient is diagnosed and an assessment is done for the procedure. If the patient wears contacts, the doctor will ask the patient to rest his eyes for a number of days before the procedure.
On the operation, the patient is awake but is given anesthetic and pain relievers too. Then the doctor will re-position and correct your corneas. Though no pain is expected, you will still feel something. This is something to expect when having Lasik eye surgery. After this, cleaning the surroundings of the eye is essential and then drops are given to the patient. Usually, it is recommended that the patient sleeps for a longer period of time while wearing protective eye covers to avoid scratching and too much light.
Some complain about having the feeling of grains in their eyes while some feel nothing. After a short period of time/days, you will immediately see the difference. You will no longer need glasses or contact lenses. Though, eye drops and some anti-biotics are still given to prevent infection. It’s also a must that proper care is always done to prevent bacteria from entering.
Sounds great right? Though, the price might get us thinking as each Lasik operation on each eye can range from $2,000 - $2,500. If you will need correction for both your eyes, that would be $4000-$5000 and that amount is not a joke. However, come to think of it, if you had glasses all your life, surely you will need to change them yearly and if you use contact lenses, you also need to buy the contacts whenever you need to change them plus the solution and the other accessories that come with it. Multiply that to just around 20 or 25 years and the price of Lasik doesn’t seem to be so expensive anymore.
How much is Lasik compared to the yearly expenses of eye glasses and contacts plus the relief of having to wear them every single day of our lives. You won’t even need to undergo painful operation or other complicated procedures. Lasik is definitely something to consider and the comfort that this new procedure brings is definitely worth it.
